The exceptional Norwegian guitarist Ketil Strand is an extremely versatile and popular studio and session musician. He’s been playing the guitar for over 30 years and is at home in many different styles. Very many, actually. But at heart he remains a Rocker. A Norwegian Rocker.

GOODBYE GAS SYNDROME
Ketil Strand suffers, or better said, suffered from a bad case of the much-feared GAS syndrome – he was always looking for something better and was never really satisfied with his equipment. Since getting his Axe-Fx ULTRA though, he’s convinced that he is completely cured.

CUSTOM MADE MFC 101
Fractal Audio’s MFC 101 MIDI board, due to be released soon, is specially designed for controlling the Axe-Fx & ULTRA and has 21 cleverly laid-out footswitches. G66 has ordered a special custom version for Ketil Strand with an extra 22nd footswitch, the so-called 'Smile Switch'.

SMILING KETIL?
This switch makes the guitarist who presses it smile spontaneously – no-one can resist it, not even Norwegian Rockers. Yet another coup de main from Fractal Audio, and we can’t wait to see the next instalment complete with a remote-controlled smiling Ketil Strand.

PURE GUITAR
Ketil Strand used his ULTRA exclusively for all sounds and effects and played directly into Cubase. No tricks and no additional mixing. Pure Axe-Fx ULTRA (with the exception of the backing tracks, of course). However, he did use a few different guitars, quite a few in actual fact, as you can see and especially hear, as nothing brings out the character of individual guitars more than the Axe-Fx Ultra, the World’s best guitar processor. 

EVOLUTION
Here we see the first part of a series of episodes in which Ketil takes us on a trip through the 'Evolution of Rock Guitar', from the late 30s right up to the present day, paying homage to countless styles, playing techniques and musical developments on the way. And because all of the guitar sounds apart from the backing tracks have been recorded with just one single guitar processor, the Axe-Fx ULTRA, this Evolution of Rock Guitar also represents a revolution in the history of guitar amplification. 

REVOLUTION
The Axe-Fx is the World’s first and only processor that is capable of reproducing the dynamics, playing feel and sound of the very best tube amps completely authentically. What may seem almost absurd is that in direct comparison it is in many ways even better than the original amps that inspired it.
